Fixing a dent can be expensive but it certainly doesn’t have to be. As long as your dent is small or medium-sized, odds are you can fix the problem at home. Repair shops can charge hundreds to fix a simple dent but if you’re willing to put in a little work, you can fix it yourself at a minimal cost. Here’s how to fix a dent from us here at Rothrock Motors!
- Plunger – If your dent is small enough a cup plunger (used on sinks) can fit over it, you already have everything you need to fix it. Simply add water to both the plunger and the dent. Place the plunger over the dent and start to push and pull, just like you’re working on a clog. Soon enough, the suction will pop the dent out.
- Hot & Cold – Another method is to use a hair dryer and a can of compressed air. Heat the dent using the hair dryer and be careful not to burn yourself. Once the metal has expanded due to the heat, turn the can of compressed air upside down and spray. The cold air will cause the metal to contract, popping the dent out.
- Specialty Kit – If all else fails and you can’t afford a repair shop, you could try a specialty kit. Although they have an iffy track record, the $20 for a repair kit could save you a couple hundred bucks at a repair shop if things go right.
