Nissan Demonstrates Smart Rearview Technology in 2014 Rogue
Finally, the kids’ bobbing heads and the oversized package squeezed into the backseat will no longer block your view of the road behind you. Nissan’s Smart Rearview Mirror will be demonstrated in the 2014 Rogue® at the New York International Auto Show later this week.
The Smart Rearview Mirror uses an exterior-mounted camera to give drivers an unobstructed view of the rear of the car without having to navigate around the car’s frame. The camera view is displayed through an LCD monitor where the traditional rearview mirror is located.
In addition, the technology is the first in the industry that allows drivers to switch back and forth between the Smart Rearview Mirror and the traditional mirror.
“Smart Rearview Mirror will give our customers the best possible view no matter how tall the passengers in the back seat or how bad the road conditions,” said Andy Palmer, Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer and Executive Vice President.
“It also offers the possibility of new and exciting designs for our upcoming models, ensuring that appearance no longer has to be compromised for visibility and functionality. We’ll have the flexibility to create new shapes and to further improve aerodynamics for better driving dynamics and fuel efficiency.”
Hmm…We at Rothrock Nissan can picture a star-shaped rear window – visibility wouldn’t be impeded thanks to the Smart Rearview Mirror. What funky shapes would you like to see framing your rear window?
